Cloud Computing

cloud-computing

Let’s assume you are an executive in a company. You responsibilities are to make sure that appropriate hardware and software is available to your employes. This alone is not enough. You need to license the software as well and if any new employees are due to join you need to provide the necessary resources or see if the existing resources allow for extra resources. Now how do you deal with the costs?

Instead of installing all this what if you’d only have to load one application? This applications would allow users to log onto Web based services that hosts everything that a user would need to complete his or her job.Remote computers would run everything from e-mail to word processing software ad even complex data analysis and processing. This is Cloud Computing. And it has changed the way we work!

In a cloud computing system, there’s a workload shift. Local computers no longer do all the heavy lifting when it comes to running applications. The network of computers that form the cloud handles the applications  instead. Hardware and software demands on the user’s side plummets. The only thing the client’s computer needs is to be able to run the cloud computing system’s interface software, which can be as simple as a Web browser, and the cloud’s network takes care of the everything else!

You already use cloud computing software on a daily basis. If you use email service, you access your mails by logging into a web browser and connecting to the servers of email service provider and downloading your mails from the providers cloud.A cloud computing system consists of a front end and a back end.The front end deals with the user’s computer and the back end is the “cloud”. They are connected through a network usually the “Internet”.

So why should anyone rely on another system to run their applications and store their data?

  • It will bring hardware costs down.
  • Cloud computing gives company wide access to applications.Every employee wouldn’t need separate software, all of them could log onto a cloud and access the required tools.
  • Clients will be able to access their data and applications anytime anywhere.
  • Corporations save money on IT support!
  • If the back end is grid computing system, clients can take advantage of the available processing power for quicker and efficient results.

These issues can be tackled by authentication techniques. But as always there is never a 100% guarantee.Extensive research into these areas is helping to deliver better answers to these questions.
