Keep in mind that everyone is different – and not necessarily a perfect reflection of the models as given by motivational theorists like Maslow or Herzberg. In general, motivate your team, try to ensure that the workplace provides as many of these elements as possible:

  • A safe, healthy environment
  • A nurturing environment
  • Positive working relationships
  • Regular opportunities for new responsibilities, accomplishment and recognition
  • Satisfying work.

Also remember that someone who has satisfied the first four β€œneeds” described by Maslow may not want to develop to a higher career level. Others may not be suited for more responsibility. Treat employees as the individuals they are!
