3 top must-haves to build a positive work environment

1. Earn team members respect
This will happen naturally if you show you’re the kind of person worthy to trust and respect-for example, if you’re

  • Trusting and respectful of others
  • Fair with team members
  • Consistent in the way you make decisions or solve problems
  • Natural and human- you come across as being sincere and able to relate to others, while still focusing on the tasks to be accomplished.

You can also earn trust and respect by encouraging team members and helping them to do their best-giving them the information they need, offering advice or training answering questions, etc.

2. Get to know team members as individuals
Investing some time in getting to know each team member can pay handsome dividends. First of all, devoting attention to each team member shows you care. Second, getting to know each person’s interests, strengths and weaknesses can help you determine how best to put the person’s talents to work, For example, someone who has an eye for detail may be ideal for checking completed jobs. On the other hand, your first choice for someone to work on a group project would not be a person who prefers to work alone.

3. Help everyone feel a part of the team.
Emphasize the important role everyone plays in achieving success for your team and organisation. When the team is successful, make sure each team member knows you appreciate his or her contributions.
