Team leaders or managers while managing teams sometimes faces precarious situations which can be handled by avoiding mistakes which are commonly done by managers and team leaders. The common mistakes to be avoided by team leaders and managers are

1.”Over- supervising”

This is when a team leader can’t let go of the work that a team member is doing. For example, the team leader might unnecessarily insist on seeing all information passing to or form the team member, or approving everything the team member does.

2.” Under-supervising”

This is when a team leader completely lets go of the work that a team member is doing. Without allowing for any steps to monitor the work in this case, the team leader often fails to give adequate instructions or guidance.

3. Either situation is domed to failure

The “over-supervised” employee may become resentful and dependent, having been deprived of the opportunity to make decisions and learn form mistakes. The “under-supervised” employee often wastes time and resources. The right degree of supervision is a matter of judgment by you as the supervisor. it will depend on experience and the particular circumstances at the time.
