Youth and Crime

youth-and-crime

Going through the headlines in a newspaper one morning, one can easily come across headlines like“A professor beaten to death by his own students” , “A boy arrested for abducting his friend”. The country is going through many problems like poverty, corruption, illiteracy etc. And the participation of youth for overcoming these problems is very important. The maximum portion of our population comprises of youth, so our youth has a great power of changing the present situation of our country. A case in point is the protest campaign organised mainly by the younger sections of the society to disagree against the exculpating of the convicts in the Nirbhaya rape case. The youth came out in full force and protested against the law that had favoured the rich and the famous. This ultimately led the high court to punish the guilty.

However, lately, the youth of our country is getting more and more involved in the unlawful acts to achieve their dreams and to earn a few bucks quickly. Is the future of the nation becoming its own destructor? 44 per cent of the arrested criminals belong to the age group of 10 to 30 years, which is the ‘youth’. The crime rate has been drastically increasing. On one hand, we are fighting for the nation to become a clean and hygienic place to live while on the other hand we are the ones who are responsible for its pollution. We are raising our voices on women’s safety and we are the one raping them. Why has the youth of this nation become so contentious?According to leading psychiatrists, the lack of adequate opportunities frustrates young people to an extent where they use any method possible to attain success. Many also believe that youngsters who take the path of crime are the troubled ones. But how can one explain a murder committed by a teenage boy in quest for getting selected into a sports team? Many cases like sexual assaults and minor rapes go unreported and the youngsters feel free to commit the same again. Even the judicial system shows leniency towards the accused and no stern action is taken.

Its high time that we start taking this increasing rage among the youngsters seriously and not just laugh it off considering it their innocence and immaturity. The time has come to revise our old judicial system and processes. The criminals know that their case will simply pile up with the rest of the cases and by the time the punishment is announced, they might not even exist. The government should pass strict laws to punish the culprit as soon as possible and take care that the laws are implemented properly. Further, the youth should also understand their duties towards the country as a citizen and hence contribute to its development not its disintegration.

You’ve picked up a very important issue that is a matter of concern for the country. If the youth indulges in such illegal acts, one can only see a dark and hazy future for the nation as whole.
Strict action against them and adequate punishment timely given to them can be a strong deterrent in this. Apart from that, parents and teachers need to play their part in guiding and counselling them from time to time!
Good work on your part! 😀

This is the hard reality that the Indian judicial system is ignoring for a very long time.. Children these days are not forced to do anything..(majority cases) They choose to do things.. And if they are not on the right path, they deserve to bear the consequences too..
