Effective communication in a team is the backbone for the team’s performance. The two widely used activities for effective team communication are

1. Share team’s successes

Letting team leader know what’s going on can have positive effects for team. For example, when appropriate, then highlight the following

  • Improvements in the quality of products or services in which the team is engaged in thus, enhancing the team communications
  • Individual special achievements and effort should be shared with rest members of the team for increasing closeness and a sense of belonging.

2. Discuss concerns

Update the team leader and if appropriate then the whole team, up to date on following issues

  • Training needs which might be needed by any team member or team as a whole for new or changed requirements.
  • Team reactions to policy changes and they should not affect the team’s communication.
  • Health and safety issues affecting the team in achieving the requisite goal.
  • Legal issues which may crop up in future.
  • Personnel issues of team members which may hamper team’s communication.

Never keep problems hidden from team leader or rest members of the team in the hope that they will go away.
