As all of you know, Workers are a need for a firm with them the company meets their goal . Staffing is the process of filling / recruiting adequate personal to increase the work force of the company so that organisational aim is met . It is taken into consideration that the filling / recruitment will be based on a set of predefined criterion with qualified personals. It refers to the recruitment, development, training and compensation of the personals .

According to Koontz and O’Donnell :-

β€œThe managerial function of staffing involves manning the organisational structure through effective and proper selection, appraisal, and development of personnel to fill the roles designed into the structure.”

Main Objectives

  • To understand the use of workforce .For eg , If a worker is good in technical stuff if he is allowed to handle account stuff everything will go haphazard so, understand the workforce and use the workforce in the right area in the right time .
  • To analyse the general problem, work over it and find a proper solution .
  • Proper functioning of the organisation – to understand the working and then providing the workforce .
  • Effective use of resources
  • Building higher model among the workers .

Nature of Staffing Functioning:

Staffing is a continuous process
As i said earlier , for the proper working of an organisation staffing is needed , as regular transfer, promotions and retirement takes place at the organisation ,workforce is required to fill the void created .Thereby increasing opportunity for others .

Staffing is people centric
This also subdivided into ‘
1. Blue collar workers and white-collar workers
Blue collar workers are those who work in logistics area, like loading and unloading stuffs and white-collar most clerical workers .
2. Managerial and non-managerial personnel.
3. Professionals
Based upon the capability,experience , knowledge and qualification workers are sorted in these areas.

Responsibility of all managers
It’s a key responsibility of managers to perform selection, training, counseling and performance appraisal fo the workers .

Human Skill 
Managers should use approach the sub-ordinate with a human relation skill so that he can organise and train then with ease.

Staffing also plays an important role in the proper working of the firm.
