HUMAN RIGHTS AND CSR

human-rights-and-csr

Human rights are the most important factor that has to be taken under consideration when we talk about compliance and ethics. So to establish a good CSR the corporate first has to make sure that every human being weather it is their own employees or the people surrounding them all get their rights.

To make sure on this the CSR initiative done by UN Global Compact made 6 principles out of 10 CSR principles that work on human rights principles which is broadly divided into 2 categories one is Human rights and the other one is labour rights.

The UN Conventions wrote human rights for the governments, it also create a duty for them to ensure protection against human rights abuses. Now corporations have a direct responsibility in respect to human rights. Corporations should not violate these rights for e.g. child labour, forced labour etc.

As such form the perspective of business risk human rights should be implemented as part of compliance programme in an organisation. It serves as a qualifier to proactive CSR initiatives. By using it as the framework for proactive CSR activities, business can take the benefit of identifying specific rights which will help them promote actively those rights that are allied with the corporate core business and its competencies or serve to answer some specific business risks.
