The subtitles are meant to applaud and congratulate the efforts of people are not generally seen in the film. Making a film or film production is as tedious as any other profession in fact more than many. The process of evolution of a film from a single sheet of paper to being projected on the screen is what we will be discussing today.

Film Production can be categorized into the following stages:

  • Ø Pre- Production Stage – This stage consists of gathering all the resources for the film to be produced, major paper is covered in this stage. It mainly comprises of scrip writing, casting, budgeting etc.

  • Ø Shooting Stage – This stage is by far compared the easiest of the 3 stages, scenes are shot according to the shooting script.

  • Ø Post – Production Stage – This stage consists of activities which are to be done once the shooting of the film is over, it mainly comprises of editing and after effects.

What is Pre – Production?

Everything that is done before the film is made comes under “Pre Production” of the film. A systematic pattern is followed in the “Pre Production Stage”. Once all the necessary arrangements are made then the film unit proceeds to the next level that is the “Shooting Stage”.

Pre Production is carried out in the following sequence:

  • Budgeting/Funding
  • Drafting – Blue Print
  • Screen Play
  • Casting
  • Location

Film budgeting

One of the few economic aspects of the “Pre Production Stage” is “Film Budgeting”, taking into account various parameters of the film the producer or the assistant producer estimates the Film Budget. To estimate the budget the following play an important role:

  • Location
  • Cast
  • Production cost
  • Editing and after effects

Screen Play

A narrative or a story of the film is called as the script. Thus the art of writing this script is called as screenplay of script writing. A screen play projects the emotion, nature and essence of the film which is effectively portrayed by the screen writer through his flow of writing. A script is the most important aspect of the film as this is where the essence of the film lies. A script which is later improvised with the technical details is called as the “Shooting Script”.
