Now a days employers mostly employ telephonic interviews in their recruitment process and identifying suitable candidates for the opening in their organization. Phone-based interviews are often employed to shorten the list of potential candidates as telephonic interview not only saves on time but also gives a brief on communication and technical skills being possessed by the candidate.

Telephonic interviews minimizes the recruitment process cost by saving on traveling and other related cost especially for candidates residing in different cities.

Hence, one should always be prepared for a phone interview as the employer can call on a moment’s notice. Following points are important and should be followed to sail across a telephonic interview

  • Prepare similar to a regular  interview.
  • Compile a list of strengths and weaknesses,
  • Be mentally prepared with a list of answers to typical interview questions .
  • Be organized about  background and skills.
  • Keep your resume in clear view to answer questions relating to it.
  • Make a list of accomplishments for review.
  • Keep a pen and paper nearby.
  • Switch off call-waiting.
  • Schedule the interview for a convenient time slot or ask for another time and suggest some alternatives.
  • Make the room noise free by switching off TV or stereo.
  • Keep the door closed.
  • Opt for landline number as audio quality might be affected in a mobile call.
