Today journalism and mass communication as a profession is emerging to its peak. More and more people are gaining knowledge about this field. But what is journalism? How can one differentiate between journalism and mass communication?

Basically mass communication is a way of disseminating the content produced by the journalist. The work of the journalist is to collect and gather information which gets broadcasted by the help of an anchor or spokesperson.

Usually an anchor or reporter gets to deal with people and situations whereas a journalist is most of the time behind the cameras. A journalist researches and writes for print media like newspaper or electronic media such as the internet. But a reporter or an anchor has a strong foothold in mediums such as television and radio. These are the people who actually conduct the interviews.

Both the journalist as well as the reporters play a special role in the news making process. It is a two way process. The content is written by a journalist that gets propagated by the help of a reporter. Indeed if we go in depth, it is quite a long process as the content or matter requires editing work by the editor and even the camera person plays a major role in the whole procedure as he/she is the one who decides  the correct angle or position of light.

Nowadays the line between journalism and mass communication has blurred. Many people tend to try their luck on both the fields. But does it not require specialisation?

A news that gets viewed by millions of people should it not be more refined and filtered?

Many people do courses in mass communication or journalism, irrespective of the difference between the two. Specialisation is a key to complete the task effectively. If you want to make your future in this field, you’ve got to know the key elements.
