Success at workplace

Success at workplace

Landing in the organization of your dreams requires a lot of dedication and consistent efforts, but getting success there needs a bit more. Definition of success differs for all, but in order to be concise it can be related to promotions, performance awards, incentives or more. All this comes up with persistent efforts and passion. In this competitive era, the need of the hour is to work efficiently and demonstrate your competency to your colleagues as well as your supervisors or seniors. This is important to get recognized in your organization and in turn an upper push on the corporate ladder.

Here are a few ways in which you can present yourself as an efficient and reliable employee:

Be aware and pro-active: Try to be aware of what all is going on in your organization, most importantly about the organizational goals, credentials and your actual role in it. Stay active so as to gather opportunities and relevant tasks for yourself. It is always better to stay a step ahead of your co-employees in whatever work or task you do. Present yourself as a reliable and confident person whenever you are assigned some work or project.

Manage expectations and communicate properly: Be on the same track as your supervisor, or in other words make sure that you understand what your reporting boss wants from you. Keep a watch on what he expects from you and keeping the lines of communication open with him would always benefit you. This will also make it easier for him to monitor your work progress.

Keep learning from your mistakes: Mistakes should not be taken too seriously as in the end the rule of thumb is to learn from them and move on. However it is always better to accept your mistake and take responsibility for it, this will help you in becoming a more confident and strong employee. Just be ready to identify knowledge gaps you need to fill and skill set you need to improvise on.

Be a good listener: Many problems arise because of communication errors and gaps. In order to avoid confusions it is always suggested to keep your ears open and stay attentive. Understanding people at work can sometimes be tricky but practice makes the man perfect. A lot can be grasped from the body language of the speaker and people capable of reading these messages always enjoy an upper edge over those who fail to understand it.

Be optimistic: Try to find solutions to the existing problems and avoid reporting them to your supervisor until they are out of your own control. If you see something that needs fixing, propose a thoughtful solution or even fix it yourself if you can. A problem-solving attitude will add to your success at work and build confidence for you amongst your colleagues and seniors. It is indeed a difficult quality to have but can lead you to greater heights in your profession.
