Murdering English

‘MURDERING ENGLISH –They should be jailed’ some say. Then I would probably spend my entire life in jail. I sometimes feel like a bushman from the jungle when I hear someone talk in orthodox English. Many of the students face the same communicating problems. What is the reason? Is it because of the primary education where most of the institutions don’t concentrate on developing student’s communicating skills and rather export the student out with cent marks?

One very important reason I observed is that the atmosphere around you affects your response. If the people around you are lame to your communication in English, it makes you feel obnoxious and ultimately you are inclined to change the mode of communication. This kind of atmosphere is very much abundant in India. If you are brought up in a surrounding where talking in English is no ‘posh’ thing, you just get good. But if it is the other way around and people mock you by labeling posh, you get worst. This is one of the very few situations where being stubborn can help you out. The next very obvious reason is lack of vocabulary in English. So, what can we do about this?

I believe the best solution is to keep murdering English (as most of us do knowingly or unknowingly). It is the only crime for which you won’t be sentenced to jail. I am not trying to confuse here. If you don’t make any mistakes how  would you know it is a mistake to do. MISTAKE can be a very good teacher. You will learn from your mistakes and make new mistakes. It is a constant pursuit of excellence. We need to get out of comfort zone and give it a try. “Don’t think, just do” might lead to something which is not ordinary or even an extraordinary mistake. But then I would have an extraordinary teacher. Some obvious solutions we make out is attending ‘Spoken English’ classes. It amuses me when I hear something catchy like ‘learn English in 30days’. Is it that simple! You will come to know the rules of English but there is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path. You will never know how well you can implement unless you get into the field. You need something more than just confidence in the present competitive world which is BELIEF. Let me explain how belief system works with an example

“There was a jobless young man making his constant attempts to find employment. One day he was standing in front of a wall. He took a chalk and wrote “I am the best” on the wall. Then he started thinking that his younger brother studies in IIT and his elder sister is a successful doctor and he is the one with no job. So he rubs off what he wrote, takes another chalk and writes “I am the best in world”
