Don’t be a victim of identity theft

In this era of internet,when everything is going online and up on the computers it is getting easier to access any record at any point of time.Everything is just a click away.On the other hand the rise of cyber crimes is also one of the growing concern across the world.

While the number of  people using credit/debit cards,internet banking,phone banking etc is increasing ,the cases of online identity theft are also on the rise.Identity theft is basically stealing someones identity and using their personal information to gain access to resources ,credit and other benefits.It is the fastest growing crime in today’s time.It can damage your financial ratings and credit ratings.People are becoming more and more vulnerable to such type of crimes.

The number of online identity theft is increasing very rapidly.There are many ways in which personal information can be obtained and exploited for identity theft such as stealing credit card and bank statements ,through shoulder surfing ,stealing of important documents,dumpster diving,hacking computer networks,systems and databases . Also the fraud calls and messages are made to obtain bank account details.All this may lead to fraudulent loans and credit/debit card may be applied for in the name of the victim.The victim may not realize this fraud for a long time.Their are many ways in which one can protect themselves from becoming a victim of such type of crimes.Shredding financial documents and personal information documents before throwing them in trash,checking bank account and credit card statements carefully,never access financial accounts on public networks,do not write ATM pin on the card and signing them as soon as you receive them,looking out for fraud calls trying to access your personal and financial details.

The rise in such type of crimes is definitely not a good sign as everything these days is going online but if we are aware and alert of the ways to protect ourselves from identity theft then we can stay away from causing ourselves such damage.
