Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility

We all know that we individuals as a part of the society have to abide by certain norms, the moral code of conduct, have to fulfill certain responsibilities, right? Same is true for corporate entities also. Business firms have to fulfill their social responsibility towards society at large.

As the years have passed, it has been realized that this term holds great significance for all organizations. And I most certainly agree with this because any business firm as a part of the society makes use of the society’s resources, sells its products and services to the people living in it, then doesn’t it have a responsibility towards the betterment of the same society too.

With the emergence of the societal marketing concept where a firm should market it’s goods keeping in mind the needs of the consumers, the requirements of the company and also the society’s long-term interest, it has reinforced the need of this responsibility towards the society. Firms may not necessarily go out of their way to fulfill this, but through daily operations too, can make a great difference.

We all are well acquainted with the tsunami of problems flooding the world, be it landslides, floods, epidemics, widespread diseases, depletion of resources etc, and the cause behind many of them are human actions that impose such danger. It’s because many organizations at the expense of the natural environment and resources make profits without realizing the gravity of the situation, that how it is affecting the society in a negative way. Be it disposing of chemical substances in water bodies without treating them, cutting off rocks and trees to make buildings, or turning a blind eye to the disadvantaged people and their need for employment, there are too many things to name. In order to fulfill this CSR, firms are required to persevere towards ensuring a greener society, usage of resources keeping in mind sustainable development, following the norms set by the government, spreading awareness through their campaigns etc. And today, many firms have started taking steps to fulfill their CSR as it also enhances the image of the company in the minds of the consumers, who also now favor responsible brands and organizations.

So, it is time that each organization makes it a point that they devote enough efforts towards not just building a great organization but also a great society by ensuring the well being of all its elements in aggregate if they really wish to stand out! 😀
