Are you a toffee victim?

Are you a toffee victim

A 5-year-old you would have loved being gifted toffee and chocolates every time you met your favourite uncles and aunts but now that you have grown up, the idea of being greeted by welcoming candies instead of RBI issued coins doesn’t seem to get down well your throat! Every time you are handed an éclairs, melody (or any other candy!) your inner conscious screams within,” I DON’T NEED YOUR TOFFEE!”

This trend of treating customers like a child lost in a candy store is catching up! This fad is not just limited to small shops but extends up to almost every retail store and contemporary mega marts offering best deals and prices. Coffee shops, malls, grocery stores and eating joints, this toffee-for-change trend only seems to be picking up. The big flashy showrooms and their beautiful structures are so eye-soothing that little does one suspect they can turn out to be such petty thieves!

How can we forget e-commerce organizations! All their attractive offers are either for 999, 1499, 2999 or 15,999, 29,999.It’s well known that if you see two prices say, 2999 and 3000  you are going to like 2999 more!It is a pricing/marketing strategy and creates a psychological image of bargained offer in consumers minds. Illusion works, big time! This trick has earned them loads of profit, making their pockets warmer day by day, even without making any efforts for the same. It’s simple, easy money!

Now, let’s say you bought a pizza worth Rupees 149/- , however this time you cleverly hand them out 150 candies smiling on their faces instead of cash, next thing you know is  (A). Life time ban (B).Public humiliation!

So why is it that you have to hold back from actually trying the afore-mentioned trick, but unquestioningly accept the same practice being completely aware of the crime? The age old rule of confronting the shopkeeper doesn’t really help because they will reply that they do not themselves have change and that nobody carries coins these days! But we have to realise that when a shopkeeper buys a carton of toffee,he places a bulk order that costs him 45  paise each toffee.

BOTTOMLINE is make them realize that the customer  is totally aware of the illegitimate profits being made by this malpractice and give them a clear message that customers are on their toes!
