A different perspective to DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

A different perspective to DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

A lot of articles have been written, many have given their views but one thing most of them have in common is treat your women better, stop violence against them. I completely agree women face discrimination, they are not treated equally, they face domestic violence. But the question I want to raise is.. ARE THEY THE ONLY ONE FACING IT???

Sadly the answer is NO. There is a continuous increase being seen in the number of cases of domestic violence against men. . The situation is worse for men as they fear about the false cases that may be filed against them and men who are accused of domestic violence get marginalized by society and even friends and family turn their backs on them. The shame of being beaten up by a woman further aggravates the problem.

This is not the only issue. The main point is that that domestic violence against men in India is not recognized by the law and there is presently no misuse clause in the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. The general perception is that men cannot be victims of violence. This helps women get away Scot-free.

But some exceptions are there like  Delhi High Court has clarified that the Act could also be used to prosecute women.

Through this article I want to raise attention towards the fact that its not just women but also men facing the same situation. So shouldn’t the law be gender neutral???

Domestic violence against any person regardless of gender should be a crime.
