Plastic Packaging : Much Smarter & Sustainable Choice

Plastic Packaging Much Smarter & Sustainable Choice

The Environmental Problems are prone unto a concern of Unscientific/Bad WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

NGT, National Green Tribunal bench going to meet soon over a New BuZzing Issue : ‘Plastic Packing Ban!’. Lets Discuss the choice.

A Plastic is form of polymeric material available in wide ranges of its density, molecular weights and degrading ratings in industries. A Plastic which is environmental friendly in nature are called ‘Bio-Plastics’ formed from Bio-polymeric group.

The Extensively dependence and usage of plastic in various industries like pharma, FMCG products are due to some advantages of plastic material. As a plastic material enables usage towards a lighter in weight with adequate strength capability,Inert &inherent barrier against oxygen and moisture, Highly versatile. Also with usage of plastic results in Increased food safety, quality and shelf life,Better Product Hygiene, Innovative Packaging, Consumer Convenience and Reduced environmental impact due to results in lower GHG emissions are key advantages of industry. All across the developed and developing nations a plastic is predominant material for FMCG products. Its about 60-85% industry packaging depends upon it with constitute large amounts of employees in plastic usage sector.

Though the NGT concern for Plastic usage due to impact environment that are Non bio-degradable in nature and note the issue of PET bottles as ‘Leaching process’ concern to health.

Plastics are available in 7 types for FMCG products – PET, HDPE, LDPE, PVC, Polypropylene, Polystyrene and others. If Ban Occur it will two fold increase in environmental problems as Low price point products will
disappear from the market therefore production becomes unviable for manufacturers, Higher price point
products will see a cost increase as manufacturers shift packaging to alternatives will lead to Lesser choice, and lower quality of life,More dependence on unpackaged foods towards a less food safety and hygiene. The Alternative are available a glass, jute, paper,  bio-plastics but their use will alter the curent price in up to 3x higher cost to consumer, also adds to weighting therefore higher the use of natural resources in transportation.

Therefore the Solution Lies to Not in Banning !  but Restructuring the Architectural framework of WASTE MANAGEMENT and CONSUMER AWARENESS.
