Placement- not an easy task

Placement- not an easy task

Every organisation is made up of two major components- Human resource and material resource. Without suitable and adequate human and material resource, the organisational objectives will be difficult to achieve.
Recruitment, selection and placement of human resource are the major tasks of the human resource management to identify and secure people in the organisation. “Placement” is a process of putting people on certain position who have been selected for the job. Once the letter of employment is given, the next step is to place the newly recruited staff. Once he is fitted into the job, he is given the activities he has to perform and also told about the duties.

Right placement of workers is very important for an organisation because :
1) it helps in reducing labour turnover.
2) it improves employee morale.
3) it helps the candidate to work as per the pre-determined objectives of the organisation.
4) it improves human relations in the organisation.

Placement is not an easy task. It is very difficult to adjust for a new employee who is not known to the job and the work environment. Due to this, the employee is generally put on a probation period ranging from three to six months and it may get extended to one year. Both in public and private sector, it is common to require new employees to undergo a period of probation before they are taken as permanent employees.
