Motivation – Written by Megha Gupta

Motivation

YOU CAN DO IT”. Motivation means “move”. It is like a push or the spark for the fire for a person to do something.  It directs behavior towards a particular goal and a person feel more fulfilled and improve overall quality of life.  It is the force that drives a person to do things.

Motivation is concerned with inspiring the man to work hard and to get the best result. Motivation may be of two types:

  • Positive
  • Negative

Positive motivation

In true sense, motivation means positive motivation. Positive motivation inspires people to do work in the best possible manner and to improve their performance. Under this better facilities, rewards and incentives are provided for their best performance. These rewards can be financial and non-financial.

Negative motivation

Negative motivation aims at controlling the negative efforts of the work and seeks to create a sense of fear for the worker, which he has to suffer for lack of good performance. It is based on the concept that if a person fails in achieving the desired results, he should be punished.

Both positive and negative motivation aim at inspiring the performance of the people to work but they differ in the approaches. Whereas one approaches the people to work in the best possible manner providing better monetary and non-monetary incentives, the other approaches to induce the person by cutting their wages on the belief that man will work out of fear. So, it is very important for a person to have some sort of motivation in his life.

Motivation is not only required to achieve higher success, it plays a very important role even in our day to day lives. A Motivated person serves to be a positive thinker and hence a better person. It influences a person to yield better results.

Many times it happens that a person start doing something with so much of positive energy and enthusiasm but due to lack of motivation somehow he stops doing it or he gets distracted from his destination.

Motivation also makes a person hardworking. For instance, if a person started working to lose weight and he loses two kilograms in two weeks. It will be a motivation for that person that if two kilograms can be lost in two weeks then more can be done. It influences a person to work even harder.

Motivation not only makes you stick to your goals but it also make a person better thinker, more creative and hardworking.
