Internships  The new faces of HR

Students! Yes, students are the latest additions in the ever increasing domain of Human Resources, the range of the function being an even more efficient and yielding economy and market. Internships are now a part and parcel of college and corporate life.

As the market for interns expands, work gets done cheaply and in a shorter period of time. At a cost of hiring one employ for a month, you can hire 3-4 interns, or even get them to work for free! The best part being, these interns are highly motivated and do better work in tighter deadlines.

Not just the companies, the students, by getting the opportunities of their lifetimes, learn a lot more about the actual workings of the real world sector apart from the theoretical knowledge. This adds to their working knowledge of their field and they start a few steps ahead from their batch-mates.

It’s a win-win for both. The students get value for their services and the companies get their money’s worth. What needs to be kept in check is that students shouldn’t be duped to bring coffee and carry out photostats in the name of letter of recommendation. Work ethics mustn’t be forgotten. Internships are basically for helping the students develop their career skill and even help them choose a career for themselves. To make them an excuse for juicing work out of children is worse than child labor.

Internships should be about learning, developing, managing, exploring but most of all, they should be about working. Working hard towards the common goal, a better market, a better society, a better world.

    With most of the Indian population being youth, interns and internships is a great domain. The country should take advantage of the workforce population is in majority, because 20-25 years from now our country will become an ageing country.

    Nowadays students think very professionally and everyone wants an internship. Unlike earlier they think that will increase value of CV. And they are very capable too..
