If I Were All Powerful

If I Were All Powerful

If I were all powerful,

1. I would pass a law that would give death sentence to criminals for any crime that cost life.

2. I would ban social networking sites during office/working hours at each and every institution.

3. I would set compulsory 6-10 hrs of working (based on the level of the job, giving a lot of thought on the standard of work) hours.

4. I would set compulsory 2 days a week for recreation.

5. I would remove reservation and put in jail a person who

a) denies a job based on caste/creed/race/language

b) raises issues, disrupt peace and promote violence based on such grounds

c) denies their involvement in any prosperous activity

6. I would put in jail those institutions and communities that promote female foeticide.

7. I would make it compulsory for every person to get training in martial arts, fitness exercises and survival strategies.

8. I would make it compulsory for every individual to plant a tree every month and go for ‘Shram Daan’ two times a year.

9. I would promote vocational training and skill enhancement for a person and provide him a degree/certificate based on successful demonstration of his skills and ability. I would remove all time limits, but make sure that enough work for skill enhancement is provided.

10. I would strive for increasing the carbon credits of my country by providing a sustainable environment.

11. I would make health insurance compulsory for every person.

12. I would promote indigenous production of commodities and organize events that portray Indian culture everywhere.

13. I would make Hindi the official language of the country and also the working language. Also, I will relax laws that make English proficiency a compulsion.

14. I will impose fine on people who make their surroundings dirty and who do not separately dump wet waste, dry waste, hazardous waste and recyclable waste.

15. I will organize various inter-religious gatherings, congress and festivals that promote importance of every religious scripture, belief and sayings.

16. I will promote community involvement in nation-related activities like international competitions, economic development and prosperity campaigns.

This is my personal opinion and a view-point that I feel will help my nation become a better place to live. I hope everyone has a list of their own. Do comment if any other good point may be added to the list.

I feel that people are better like they are now. Complete power given to a single person can make the situations worse. The person might not consider other’s point of view and unintentionally might lead to welfare of only some and loss to others.

As said in the end, it is your personal opinion. My opinion: I would try and deny you to become powerful.

I accept dear fellow readers that I may have been selfish while writing certain points. But then, I state them with certain real-time incidences. In Saudi Arabia, for example, crime rate is nil, just because of the fear for a criminal of getting amputated for life. I accept while reservations are meant to increase equality and to some extent it has improved in India (refer to Gini Coefficient of India, which is commendable), but at some point of time, it might be a necessity, if we look at a welfare state where every person is treated the same. Please do state if you disagree with a point and also do tell why you chose to disagree.

As I had said in my earlier comment, It is your opinion and I respect that. If I would have been a head of state, I too would have employed most of your suggestions. I differ with you on 1st, 2nd and 13th points. And with 7th point, I do not completely agree nor disagree with you.

For 1st point, it is a very harsh decision on murderers. Rather than giving death sentence, we could improve the quality and quantity of govt. rehab centres to make them sane and help them gather empathy for the society and people.

In 2nd point, it entirely depends on a person’s discipline. If an employee is determined and disciplined in doing his office work then he won’t log in to social networking sites. this discipline comes from within. Banning will create resentment which may lead to unnecessary strikes in place where you rule. ultimately your state will suffer and may lead to a social rebellion.

Regarding the 13th point, there are 21 more languages apart from Hindi considered by our Indian constitution. Making Hindi the official language will create resentment in other states. Language is a very personal and cultural issue. Making Hindi official will make people think that their identity is being compromised.

These are my personal opinions. Hope you won’t mind

Dear Akul ! I somehow agree with you if I am a humane person. But maybe Saudi Arabia has got Zero Crime Rate because of the fear of death, and my intention was to create that fear. I agree with your explanation on point 2 and 13. I said about Hindi, because it was representing majority of population, but later I understood that was too disproportionate, so I do admire your point.

Interesting! But there are offices where they have to surf social networking as a part of their work. Eg: RJs
    But yeah well written!

I agree with you that it is an open ended subject and some people actually need to use social media for their benefit, as you said in one of your articles that one needs to use social media smartly.
