Human Resource- Men over Money and Machine

Human Resource- Men over Money and Machine

Going back to the childhood days, we all have heard numerous stories of the wise and the quick- witted Tenali Raman. How important was his role in the life of Raja Krishnadev Raya, the king of the Vijayanagara Empire. For Raja Krishnadev Raya, Tenali Raman was his priced possession. Every decision taken by the court, would have to pass through Tenali Raman. No amount of wealth could ever substitute Tenali Raman for Raja Krishnadev Raya. As he knew, money could be earned again, but the kingdom could only be retained through Tenali’s intelligence.

Similarly, it is a man who possesses the art of getting things done in an organisation, and not the money and machinery.

We all know, behind the production of goods or services, there lies the human mind, the effort and hardwork put in by him, the working hours devoted by him. Human being is the fundamental resource for constructing anything. Today, many experts claim that human efforts can be replaced by machines and technologies, but what they do not realise is that humans are the ones who give rise to their invention. And is the humans who will operate them!

Altogether, the process of human resource management can strive for excellence only when there is a perfect balance between the human, financial and physical resouces.

Human resource is an irreplaceable lot for an organisation. It is the sole source for intellectual capital in an organisation. Their stock of knowledge, skills and expertise takes the organisation ahead and helps meet its futuristic goals.

Thus, it is highly expected of an organisation to respect the rational needs and desires of its employees. As Maslow also suggested, it is extremely crucial for an organisation to focus on its employees’ physiological, safety, social, self- esteem and self- actualisation needs.

If the employees are satisfied with the work environment and other factors, they could yield the best of their output which would work in the favour of the organisation. Higher pay would make them happy, but a good status and recognition would keep them satisfied.

As the saying goes, ‘Happiness gives temporary satisfaction, but Satisfaction gives permanent happiness!’

Hence, it can be said that Human Resource Management is the process of making efficient and judicial use of available human resources.

Because quantity can be achieved through money and machine, but quality can be strived only through the excellence of human capital!
