Creativity and Madness

creativity-and-madness

It’s surprising how people have stereotyped writers and poets, its hilarious to a bit extent. That crazy guy who doesn’t make sense to anyone but himself is a poet, that intense loner guy who sits in the corner and simply observes is a writer. However,We have seen the most beautiful literary work that has ever come out has a touch of insanity or madness. Is it madness that leads to creativity? Or creativity that leads to madness? Oxford dictionary defines creativity as the creation of something new and original. Ever since inception creativity and madness are linked together. Is it possible that one completely exists without the other? F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Sylvia Plath, Zelda Fitzgerald- these are some of the biggest names of American Literature, associated with genius, but at the same time with madness and eccentricity. So is madness an absolute essential for a work of genius?
Who knows maybe they are just born mad. Knock your hats off and think about it.

  • The article is thought provoking.:D You’re actually right that creative and highly artistic people do have a crazy and mad side to them. So, even i believe that there is some connection between creativity and madness. Or, perhaps, that’s not madness but just plain passion that sometimes takes a crazy obsessive form. I would definitely want to read stuff about this to know more about the same.

  • I know,
I’ve heard so many people come up to me and say that you’re a loner because you’re a writer, and I totally know what their implied meaning is (yes yes, hinting at me being mad)!
