Clashes in US West Coast Cities During May Day Marches

Reportedly, there has been a clash of crowds with the Police in the cities of the US West Coast during May Day. The Police officials responded with grenades, pepper spray. In Seattle, the protesters hurled rocks and wrenches. In California and other cities, the demonstrators rallied against the Police. The reason was the serial killings by the policemen of unarmed black men.

Social Media revealed the tiff between police and protesters at Seattle. It covered the footage of demonstrators setting fire to the garbage and damaged around two dozen vehicles. The demonstration build up to take the form a huge riot. Three Police officials were injured and 16 people were arrested in Seattle.

During the protests in Oakland, more than hundred windows of street-side businesses were smashed and several people were arrested. In the lot of a car dealership, a lot of damage has been reported including the burning of at least one vehicle.

May 1 was announced as a day to focus on labor and immigration issues by the protesters. The demonstrators used this occasion to rally against the violence cause by the city Police.

Previously, in Baltimore, the protests were not all that violent – they were peaceful protests. The prosecutors brought charges against all six officers involved in the arrest of a 25 year old black man – Freddie Gray, who succumbed to death due to spinal injuries while under police arrest.

The death has become a cause of national outcry against the violence towards African- Americans ad other minority groups by the white dominated US law enforcement establishment. The fuelled riots in Baltimore.
