Acronym #3: QUICK

Acronym 3 QUICK

Welcome back to the next one in the acronym series! If you remember, the last one was about SERIES- Smile, Enable, Rapport, Interest, Engage and Support. If you’re still quite interested in acronyms or new at your HR job and don’t know what to do, this is a good way to start.

Let’s see what we have in store today… This one says QUICK!

Question- Probing for details is never a bad thing. Understand the know-hows to be able to understand them. Ask your seniors, your friends and co-workers for help. Compliment their achievements and work and learn from them.

Understand- You have to listen to be able to understand. Start listening! Keep your eyes and ears open and your mind empty. Fill it with observations and experience but learn to differentiate between wisdom and tittle-tattle. Don’t fall in the trap of hearsays and start believing anything and everything. Being gullible is the worst you can be as a boss or an employee.

Identify- To be able to get ahead of them, you need to detect and recognize the concerns in your department. And not just the problems, every individual has his or her own capabilities and workitude, i.e. work attitude. Identify who is suitable for which project and acknowledge different talents in different fields.

Curious- Questioning your seniors and parallel employees is not the only way to gain expertise. Be curious! Research, talk to people in other departments as well. Know all you can about your company to give some and get some.

Know-how- To be able to guide others, you must be clear as to what exactly is HR all about. Experiment, fail, fall, get up, buckle up, run faster, slow down, breathe, maintain your calm but never lose control. But remember, the rein must always be in your hands to race the stallion and win the challenge.
