India is the second most populous country in the world after China and after by 2025 may beat its communist neighbor on that count if the growth of population remains unabated. Growing population need more and more resources for their living and luxury but our nature has provided us limited resources for consumption. To meet the requirements of this growing population, we are over utilizing the resources which disturbs the natural balances of various cycles prevailing in nature. Increasing population is acting as a monster who is depleting our resources which threatening our lives on the earth.

Not only resources are depleting but many other problems are arising due to increasing population. Unemployment one of the major problem arising because of this. As population growing day by day, people want to be employed to feed their families, to meet their luxuries, to improve their status etc. Inflation causes because of this population. All these causes making our life difficult on earth.

With more than 1 billion strong (or weak) population India accounts for 16% of the total world population but occupies only 2% of the world area. No wonder our cities and villages are bursting at their seams. We are too many to make world super power.

Human resource of a country are its greatest asset but not so far India. There is a saying “Excess of everything is bad”, this is perfectly suitable for Indian population. In fact our extra-large population is a stumbling block in our growth. Everytime growth in population negates all grains and growth. Then there is a strong reciprocal link between our population, illiteracy, poverty, ill-health, ignorance and exploitation of the masses.

There is urgent need to stall the rate of population growth. We have tired coercive methods earlier and have suffered the counterproductive results. The only way to check population growth is the proliferation of education, better living standard and awareness about the voluntary adoption of birth control methods. Most of the population aware about all these problems but still they don’t bother. Now it is a high time for them to pay attention towards all these problems. If all citizens together make efforts in one particular direction then we definitely achieve positive results.

Fortunately, the 2001 censes has shown a glimmer of hope by showing a marginal drop in the birth rate. If we are to be a world giant, we must strike a fine balance between our population and our resources.
