Welfare and health of contract labour

There are certain specific measures requiring by the contractors to take for the welfare and health of contract labour. Although this arises in those employments in which no abolishment of the system of contract labour. Following are the relevant provisions:Welfare And Health Of Contact Labour

  • Canteens: under section 16 of the Act, the appropriate Government has the powers to make rules. Regarding the labour numbering, 100 or more is ordinarily employed by a contractor, in every establishment to which the Act applies. By the contractor, one or more canteens shall be provided and maintained for the use of such contract labour. Wherein contract and the employment of the contract labour is likely to continue for such period as may be prescribed. Thus, the rules may provide the number of canteens. And the standards in respect of construction, furniture, accommodation, and other equipment of the canteens, and for the date by which the canteen shall be provided. Also, the foodstuffs which may be served therein and the charges which may be made, therefore.
  • Restrooms: under section 17 the Act, makes the following provisions. In connection with the work of an establishment to which the Act applies and in every place where contract labour is required to halt at night. Also, in which work requiring the employment of contract labour is likely to continue for the prescribed period. The number of restrooms or the suitable option within the prescribed time shall be provided by the contractor, to the contract labour. Also, section 17 of the Act, says that the restroom or alternative option provided under Sub-section must be sufficiently lighted and ventilated. Also, the maintenance of clean and comfortable conditions shall be there.
