Summary

We are seeking a customer-facing Mortgage Underwriter to lead Proof of Value (POV) engagements with prospective customers. During the sales evaluation, you will run the prospect’s real loan files and scenarios through our products and demonstrate — with underwriting rigor — that our income calculation, condition logic, AUS handling and guideline application are accurate and valuable for their business.

You sit between the prospect, Sales and Product: you design and execute the POV, validate results against Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA and USDA guidelines, and translate “the product got this right” into a credible, underwriter-to-underwriter business case that moves deals forward.

What you’ll do

POV design & execution

  • Scope, design and run Proof of Value exercises on prospect-provided loan files and representative scenarios.
  • Configure test cases and validate income, credit, asset, AUS and collateral outcomes against the applicable agency and investor guidelines.
  • Compare product output to the prospect’s expected underwriting result, isolate any differences and explain them clearly.

Demonstrate accuracy & value

  • Document POV results thoroughly — accuracy rates, exceptions and the time/quality value the product delivers.
  • Present findings to the prospect’s underwriting and leadership audiences, both written and verbal.
  • Serve as a credible underwriting SME in demos, evaluations and prospect calls, building trust underwriter-to-underwriter.

Deal support & feedback loop

  • Partner with Sales to convert a successful POV into a compelling, evidence-backed business case.
  • Channel POV findings, prospect requirements and product gaps to Product with clear context and prioritization.
  • Communicate results and recommendations effectively to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Who we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of US mortgage underwriting experience, ideally with pre-sales, POC/evaluation or client-facing exposure.
  • Outstanding spoken and written English; able to present underwriting results persuasively to prospects and executives.
  • Deep knowledge of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines; FHA / VA / USDA depth for the government-program track.
  • Strong command of income calculation across W-2, self-employed (Schedule C, K-1, 1065, 1120/1120S, Form 8825), rental, variable, bonus and commission income.
  • Hands-on review of borrower documentation — income, assets, credit, AUS findings (DU/LPA) and collateral.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate complex underwriting concepts into clear, simple language.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience supporting sales evaluations, proofs of concept, or solution / pre-sales engineering.
  • Familiarity with fintech or SaaS mortgage tools and how lenders evaluate them.
  • Familiarity with automated income calculation or verification platforms.
