Job Description

Location: Remote / India
Hours: 6:00 PM – 3:00 AM IST
Specialization: Conventional (Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac) OR FHA / VA / USDA — we are hiring both
Team: Product & Engineering partnership

Summary

We are seeking an experienced, tech-savvy Mortgage Underwriter to perform continuous testing on our mortgage products and own underwriting sign-off on product releases. You will apply deep underwriting expertise — Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA and VA guidelines — to validate the accuracy of our underwriting tools and partner closely with Product and Engineering on improvements and new features.

You are the gate between a build and a release: if the income calculator, condition logic or AUS handling is wrong, you find it, document it, and decide whether it ships.

What you’ll do

Product testing

  • Apply advanced knowledge of agency guidelines to rigorously test underwriting tools and validate accuracy.
  • Review borrower documentation (income, assets, credit, collateral, AUS findings) and confirm the correct application of underwriting rules within the product, such as income calculator output.
  • Document test cases and results thoroughly, flag discrepancies, and recommend solutions to ensure compliance with agency and investor standards.

Release signoff

  • Own underwriting sign-off for releases; run regression and UAT cycles and gate releases on quality.
  • Reproduce, isolate and clearly describe defects so engineering can fix them quickly.
  • Re-test fixes and confirm resolution before release.

Collaboration & communication

  • Serve as the underwriting SME to technical and non-technical teams, providing clarity and context.
  • Partner with Product to share enhancement opportunities and shape new features.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Who we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of US mortgage underwriting experience, including FHA and VA for the government-program track.
  • Tech-savvy, with the ability to critique mortgage software and explain findings clearly.
  • Experience testing technology products or tools, and excellent documentation and prioritization skills.
  • Strong command of income calculation across W-2, self-employed (Schedule C, K-1, 1065, 1120/1120S, Form 8825), rental, variable, bonus and commission income.
  • Hands-on review of borrower documentation — income, assets, credit, AUS findings (DU/LPA) and collateral.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate complex underwriting concepts into clear, simple language.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with fintech or SaaS mortgage tools.
  • Familiarity with automated income calculation or verification platforms.
  • Exposure to agile product development environments.
