Job Description

Location: Remote / India
Hours: 6:00 PM – 3:00 AM IST
Specialization: Conventional (Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac) OR FHA / VA / USDA — we are hiring both
Team: Product partnership

Summary

We are seeking a Mortgage Underwriter with encyclopedic guideline knowledge to own guideline review and translate agency changes into product updates. You will monitor Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA and USDA guideline updates and bulletins, assess their impact on our underwriting logic, and partner with Product to keep income calculation, conditions and rule logic accurate and current.

You are our source of truth on what the guidelines say today: when an agency publishes a change, you decide what it means for our product and drive the update.

What you’ll do

Guideline monitoring & interpretation

  • Track and interpret agency and investor guideline updates, bulletins and selling-guide changes across Conventional and government programs.
  • Assess the impact of each change on underwriting rules, income calculation logic and condition sets within the product.
  • Maintain an authoritative, well-organized internal guideline knowledge base.

Product updates

  • Translate guideline changes into clear product requirements and underwriting rule specifications.
  • Review and validate that product logic — calculators, conditions, AUS handling — reflects current agency rules.
  • Advise Product on prioritization and sequencing of rule and feature changes.

SME & communication

  • Serve as the go-to guideline authority for underwriting, product and customer-facing teams.
  • Document interpretations and rationale precisely so decisions are auditable and repeatable.
  • Communicate guideline impacts and recommendations effectively to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Who we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of US mortgage underwriting experience with demonstrably deep, current guideline fluency.
  • Mastery of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac selling guides; FHA / VA / USDA program depth for the government track.
  • Proven habit of staying current on agency bulletins and translating them into action; strong, precise writing.
  • Strong command of income calculation across W-2, self-employed (Schedule C, K-1, 1065, 1120/1120S, Form 8825), rental, variable, bonus and commission income.
  • Hands-on review of borrower documentation — income, assets, credit, AUS findings (DU/LPA) and collateral.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate complex underwriting concepts into clear, simple language.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience writing underwriting rule specifications, guideline matrices or policy documentation.
  • Familiarity with automated income calculation or verification platforms and how rules are encoded.
  • Exposure to agile product development environments.
