Excellence in TQM Leadership and Quality Policy

TQM Leadership and Quality Policy

TQM leadership and quality policy, both of them provides the excellence in the process. Firstly lets talk about Leadership.

TQM Excellence in Leadership

Leadership can act as senior management’s tool in implementing TQM in two fundamental ways.

  • Firstly, by modeling the TQM philosophy and principles within its departmental operations. That is to say,  leadership can serve as a beachhead for the TQM process throughout the company.
  • Secondly, leadership, with senior management’s support, can take the TQM process company-wide by developing and delivering the long-term training. Moreover, the development is necessary for the major organizational culture shift required by TQM.

leadership quality

Above all, implementing TQM requires a team effort headed by your organization’s leadership team. And, each person involved in change management has their responsibilities. And it is important for the entire organization to understand the role of leadership in TQM.

Characteristics of leadership excellence

This includes,

  • Vision – Vision helps everyone focus. Moreover, it gives you energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the project at hand. Above all, vision helps you finish, because you know what you’re trying to achieve.
  • Communication – A leader doesn’t have an ice cube’s chance of succeeding if he or she doesn’t communicate well with everyone involved. One of Mr. Williams recommendations is a favorite of mine: Speak to an audience in their language. Be clear, concise, and correct. Moreover, leaders must be motivational and inspirational.
  • People skills – Some people think leaders are in charge. In reality, leaders work for the teams they lead. Leaders must be visible and available. They listen, ask questions, and do what they must to empower people to deliver.
  • Character – Integrity and honesty are crucial. Above all, leaders with character build up their emotional bank accounts with their people. Moreover, when it gets tough, teams are willing to work through the issues. Another aspect of character is humility. Most importantly, excellent leaders make sure their teams shine.
  • Competence – Although leaders are humble, they must be good at what they do. As, they build teams, solve problems, sell themselves, and sell their ideas. Moreover, they are life-long teachers so, they don’t run out of material. Above all, they are life-long learners.
  • Boldness – Lots of people make decisions. But, Leaders make the best decisions they can and don’t look back.
  • A serving heart – Leaders gave authority in order to serve. Ymoreover, Excellent leaders have power, but don’t fall into using if for their personal gain. As, they use it to achieve others’ goals, to better the world around them.

Process to achieve TQM

This involves following attributes from the leadership,

  • Involvement – TQM of any kind of new company policy or program requires participation from all of the departments that will be affected. Moreover, company leadership needs to identify what those departments are and create an implementation team that consists of representatives from each affected group. And, Management needs to create a structure that identifies various group leaders, the responsibilities of those group leaders to insure that the implementation team meets its timetable.
  • Interest – Implementing TQM within a company requires a feeling of urgency on the part of the entire company. Moreover, Leadership needs to help the employees understand how the company benefits from the new implementation, but it also needs to get the organization to see the setbacks of not making a change.
  • Monitoring – TQM is a dynamic procedure that needs to be monitored by management and altered to meet implementation goals. Moreover, it is the responsibility of leadership to put a monitoring system in place, analyze the data that is being generated during the implementation. Moreover, they can make efficient changes if necessary.
  • Phase – Implementing TQM is often done in phases. Moreover, the company leadership needs to be able to identify when each phase of TQM is complete and be ready to  move in the next phase. For example, if the company is bringing in a new software program for customer management, then the first phase of the program may be to implement it in the sales department.

Quality Policy of TQM

The Quality policy is top management’s expression of its intentions, direction, and aims regarding quality of its products and processes. Moreover, it is a document jointly developed by management and quality experts to express the quality objectives of the organization. Above all, it is the basic need for implementation and success of TQM.  Moreover, a proper quality policy with relevant monitoring results in smoother operations with low errors and reduction in waste.

Above all, the Quality Policy is a commitment from the top management to ensure compliance with the Quality Management System, and to ensure increase in customer satisfaction.

And, the management should ensure that,

  • Firstly, all employees are not only aware of, but fully understand the Quality Policy.
  • Secondly,  the quality policy is appropriate to the purpose of the organization,
  • Lastly, it is reviewed for continuing suitability and is understood within the organization.

Quality Policy Requirements

  • Firslty, Identify the customer’s needs.

  • Then, ensuring that bought-in materials and services reliably meet the required standards of performance and efficiency.
  • Concentrating on the prevention philosophy.
  • Educating and training for quality improvement.
  • Reviewing the quality management systems to maintain progress.

Moreover, practical assistance and training should be given, where necessary, to ensure the relevant knowledge and experience are acquired for successful implementation of the policy.
