Project Time Management

Project Time management refers to the process of planning and exercising control over the amount of time spent on specific activities – with an objective to increase effectiveness, efficiency or productivity.

It is an activity aimed to maximize the overall benefit of a set of activities within the boundary condition of a limited amount of time. The process of time management is aided by a range of skills, tools, and techniques that are used to manage time when accomplishing specific tasks, projects, and goals that complies with a due date.

At the initial stage, activities involved in the process of time management are either related to business or work, but gradually its has broadened to include personal activities as well. A time management system is said to be a combination of designed processes, tools, techniques, and methods. Time management is usually a necessity in any project development as it determines the project completion time and scope.

Time Management is also considered as a subset of project management and is commonly referred as project planning and project scheduling. It is one of the core functions identified in project management contributing towards the successful completion of the project.

Generally, time management strategies are linked with the recommendation to set personal goals.  Such that all the goals are recorded and further broken down into a project, consisting of action plan, or simple task list. For individual tasks an rating scale may be established, with set deadlines and assigned priorities. The process of scheduling provides a plan with a task list or a schedule or calendar of activities.
