Paragraph Formatting

Paragraph Formatting

In Adobe PageMaker 7, you can format paragraphs to control the appearance and layout of text blocks. Here’s an overview of paragraph formatting options in PageMaker:

  1. Select the text block or specific paragraphs within the text block that you want to format. You can click and drag over the desired text or place the cursor within the paragraphs.
  2. Use the paragraph formatting options available in the Control Palette or the Paragraph Palette to modify the appearance and layout of the selected paragraphs. Here are some common formatting options:
    • Alignment: You can align paragraphs to the left, right, center, or justify them to have even left and right margins.
    • Line Spacing: Adjust the leading (line spacing) to increase or decrease the space between lines of text.
    • Indents: Set the left and right indent values to control the distance of the text from the margins.
    • First Line Indent: Specify a value to create an indent for the first line of the paragraph.
    • Bullets and Numbering: Apply bullets or numbering to paragraphs using the available options.
    • Tabs: Set tab stops to align text at specific positions within a paragraph.
  3. PageMaker also supports the use of paragraph styles, which allow you to define and apply consistent formatting to paragraphs throughout your document. To create or modify paragraph styles, go to the “Type” menu, select “Paragraph Styles,” and use the options provided in the Paragraph Styles dialog box.
  4. In addition to the palettes, you can access paragraph formatting options through the “Type” menu in the menu bar. Explore the various submenus, such as “Paragraph,” “Justification,” and “Indents and Tabs,” to access additional formatting options.
  5. To preview the formatting changes before applying them, select the text block or paragraphs and make adjustments in the Control Palette or the Paragraph Palette. The changes will be reflected immediately in the selected text.

It’s important to note that PageMaker 7 is an older version of the software, and its compatibility with modern operating systems and file formats may be limited. However, you can still use it for basic desktop publishing tasks that require paragraph formatting.
