Introduction

Guidance is given for fixed oil storage tanks, which includes containers directly connected to a point of use. However, other containers of oil, chemical or other potentially polluting materials handled or stored incorrectly also lead to pollution incidents, through accidental leakage or spillage. In most cases, such incidents can be prevented if appropriate measures are taken at an early stage. This is important to reduce the risk of pollution of land, surface waters, groundwaters, sewers and drains.
