Introducing Hardware

Introducing Hardware

In IT support, hardware refers to the physical components of a computer system, including both internal and external components. Here are some of the most common hardware components found in a computer system:

Central Processing Unit (CPU): This is the “brain” of the computer, responsible for processing instructions and performing calculations.

Random Access Memory (RAM): This is the temporary memory used by the computer to store data and instructions while the computer is running.

Hard Disk Drive (HDD) or Solid-State Drive (SSD): This is the long-term storage device used by the computer to store data even when the computer is turned off.

Motherboard: This is the main circuit board of the computer, which connects all of the other components and provides power and communication between them.

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU): This is a specialized processor used to handle the complex calculations required for video and graphics processing.

Power Supply Unit (PSU): This is the component responsible for converting the AC power from the wall outlet into DC power that can be used by the computer’s components.

Input and output devices: These include the keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, printer, and other devices used to interact with the computer.

Network Interface Card (NIC): This is the component that allows the computer to connect to a network, either through a wired Ethernet connection or a wireless connection. IT support professionals are responsible for troubleshooting and repairing hardware issues in a computer system. They may need to diagnose problems with individual components and replace them as needed, or they may need to work with the entire system to diagnose and repair more complex issues. They also need to have a thorough understanding of the hardware components and how they work together in order to effectively support the system.
