Don’t let Distance Become a Barrier

Too often agents make the mistake of ignoring people that have moved out of their area. Most people continue relationships with others even after moving away. This is especially true with the advent of e-mail communication. My advice is to keep calling and sending e-mail newsletters as you usually would for other clients. These people may send referrals, move back, or even move somewhere else. You could refer them to an agent who could sell their home or help them find another home and receive a referral fee for doing so.

When sending correspondence, do the following

  • Handwrite the envelope address. To avoid sending mail that resembles junk mail, don’t use computer labels.
  • Send special occasion cards. Use the clients’ anniversary, the anniversary of the day they moved into their home, Mother’s Day, Father’s Dayand birthdays to reinforce your connection with the clients and to remind them that you care.
