Absolute URL

Absolute URL

Absolute, means “not dependent on anything else” hence, an absolute URL points directly to a file. Hence, an absolute URL specifies the exact location of a file or folder on the internet. Further it is unique and hence, if two URLs are identical, then both point to the same file. It is used to uniquely identify a file on the Internet and is given in the address bar of browser. It must include the protocol (such as http://) at the beginning of the link. For example:

http://www.vskills.in/images/howitworks.jpg

specifies an image file howitworks.jpg located in the images directory, under www.vskills.in domain name. Further illustrated with the image

Absolute URL

It can be quite long and to use it within the web pages of a web site becomes too tiresome to manage and hence a shorthand form called relative URL is used.
