Work Measurement- Work measurement is the application of techniques designed to establish the work content of a specified task and the time taken for a qualified worker to complete that task at a defined level of performance. It determines how much time is required to do a particular job. While job design specifies the work activities or set of tasks of an individual/group in an organizational setup, Work Measurement analyzes these work activities for setting performance standards and benchmarks.

Work measurement is used in preparing budgets, manpower & resource planning, scheduling, standard costing, and in designing incentive schemes.  It plays a key factor in monitoring and measuring performance in terms of standard time. Workforce planning for a particular job helps to determine additional labor requirements, overtime hours, and so on.  Work measurement methods are used to determine the most efficient means of performing a task. Scheduling work effectively motivates the workforce with objective targets and incentive plans. Work measurement brings standardization and helps eliminate wastage due to non-value adding activities.
