Need for Compatibility testing

Software applications released should be of high quality and compatible with all hardware, software, OS, platforms, etc. which is possible by opting compatibility testing. In other words, compatibility can be ensured through adopting compatibility testing, which detects any errors before the product delivers to the end-user. Moreover, this testing establishes or confirms that the product meets all the requirements set and agreed upon by both the developer and the end-user. Further, this quality product, in turn, improves the reputation of the firm and propels the company to success. It is also important to know that quality products improve sales and marketing efforts and bring delight to the customer. Moreover, an efficient compatibility test effort ensures real compatibility among different computing environments. Most importantly, it confirms the workability and stability of the software which is of much importance before its release.

Types:

  1. Forward Compatibility Testing: This type of testing confirms that the software is compatible with the newer versions.
  2. Backward Compatibility Testing: This type of testing helps to check whether the latest version of the application works seamlessly in an older version. In other words, it checks the behavior of the hardware/software with the older versions of the hardware/software.
