Reflexive Dynamic and Time Based Access Lists

Reflexive Dynamic and Time Based Access Lists

In addition to standard, extended, and named access lists, there are also reflexive, dynamic, and time-based access lists.

Reflexive Access Lists:

A reflexive access list is a type of dynamic access list that permits return traffic from an external network to a specific internal host. It is created dynamically in response to the outbound traffic initiated by the internal host. The reflexive access list entry is created when the outbound packet passes through the access list, and this entry remains active for a specified period of time to allow the return traffic. Once the time has elapsed, the entry is automatically deleted.

Dynamic Access Lists:

Dynamic access lists are created in response to specific situations, and they are often used to allow a specific host or group of hosts to access the network for a limited period of time. For example, a dynamic access list might be used to allow remote access from a particular host for a certain period of time or during a specific event.

Time-Based Access Lists:

Time-based access lists are used to control network access based on the time of day or day of the week. This type of access list is useful in situations where access should only be allowed during specific hours. For example, a time-based access list might be used to prevent Internet access during working hours to conserve bandwidth and increase productivity. Time-based access lists are created in a similar way to standard and extended access lists, but they also include time-based parameters. All of these types of access lists can be configured on routers and switches to provide network security and control.
