Buyers of Hedge Funds
Current ownership is divided between Wealthy individuals (High Net Worth Individuals or HNWI) and institutions. And it is divided as follows.
- High Net Worth Individuals: Wealthy individuals (High Net Worth Individuals or HNWI) individuals with assets in excess of US$ 1 million – account for over 60% of the approximately $600bn invested in hedge funds. There are signs that hedge funds are becoming a standard element in HNWI – not just super wealthy – portfolios.
- Insurance, Pensions, and Non-profit.
Provider of Hedge Funds
The vast majority of hedge fund providers/managers are located in North America largely in the New York and Los Angeles areas. But in Europe – London particularly- a large number of companies are starting up. Most advisors noted a specific life cycle for hedge funds.
