As the semester comes to a close. I reach out to grab my books.

I have been reflecting a lot on my time at DU and what I have experienced over the course of year. With the semester coming to a end,(looking towards 2016). I am reminded of myself nearly year ago, confirming my attendance at 8:30 in the morning in Room no- 18.

How every word out of everyone around me seemed to have amplified, it was as if I were in slow motion and everyone one around me just staring.

Half way through, I can say I was both right and wrong in so many ways. My friends who first seemed to seem peculiar are now buddies and have exposed me to many brilliant ideas.

I’ve learned so much from the diverse experiences and ambitions of my classmates.

The thrill of extracurricular activities has been enormously rewarding. Yet, in some ways, my most rewarding take away at college, as well as those of many others, have been the personal maturity and lessons that aren’t mentioned in any college websites or brochures.

When I look to myself and compare to a year ago me, I see a lot of difference. I have not only grown as a student but also as a person.

I have learnt to value time, appreciate my family, I learned to deal with rejection and learned the value of failure and persistence.

I mention all of this not as a note in a personal diary, but of how much you have to look forward to in your time at college, and hopefully at DU.

The glossy brochures and websites of every college can tell you tell you so much . But what they can’t speak to is the amount of pure life experiences you’ll get from independently exploring almost every facet of yourself, probably for the first time. I won’t lie – I’ve experienced some of the happiest moments at college, but also some of the biggest frustrations and tears. But through it all, the new found perspectives I’ve gained have been so worth the ups and downs of these growing pains.

So When You Chose Your College Look Beyond The Brochure And You’ll Know Where You Belong.

The war between the genders has been a long one. Before it was raged in the shadows but now its head on.

With the fight for gender equality is on the rise. As evident it may be the question of the superior gender always rises without fail.

Till now we have only twiddled with is with songs like

Girls are best, boys are best…. prapra….

But now we actually try to prove it, as our intellectual minds have taken up the challenge.

Here is a prognosis by Prof Rushton on whose wining it.

There are numerous studies suggesting that it’s not so over the years. But in an recent study it was stressed that, the tests conducted before were of school students and teen of the group no teens of age 17-18.

Which gives girls a unfair advantage as the mature faster than the boys thus can be seen to do better in schools. Thus does not lead to fair trial and the studies need to be analyzed on full grown people.

Prof Rushton says that the difference is due to the difference in the size of the brain.

He argues that,” we know that men have larger brains, even when you take into account larger body size,’ said the researcher. ‘That means there are more neurons. The question is what these neurons are doing in a man – and they probably have an advantage in processing information.”

His study focuses on the greater size of the brain

But what he forgot to associate is that, men are bigger built as well , thus the bigger brain size, implying that the size may be bigger but the body is too.

Real shocker haa.

Thus once again our twiddling has given no result

But our intellectuals will not rest someday we might come to know who superior

MEN V/S WOMEN

The misconception the FDI will lower the economy of the country and bad for business may be more hyped than you thought.

The rise of the Swadeshi life style and many more attributes have created a smoke screen in the minds of the common man, that the companies which come to the country are all about the profit of their own and bring no value to ours .

Well there’s a little more technicality to it that meets the eye. Which leads to this misconception.

When you talk about a big firm or company we tend to compare their turnover before entering our market and after which seems to us that they are making a lot of profit from our country.

But that not the case entirely if we look at it in an economic sense we can see that the firm if establishes in our country. Our contraries benefits too.

This is due to the twist of the GDP.

GDP is the market value of all the goods and services produced within a given time period , say a financial year by factor of production located within the territory of that country.

So according to the statement if a foreign company sets up its branch in the India than the products produced by the set up will be added to Indies GDP. On the other hand the plant will also provide employment and increase the standard of living.

It’s a give and take relation for a developing country like ours. It does not mean that it should be left without scrutiny but, more than necessary is not required.

The GDP of a country is a measure of the economical status of a country. A very important figure.

To better understand lets’ take an e.g. :- THE HERO HONDA set up in India.

The number of bikes produced by the set up, the no of employees it gives employment to , are all added to India’s GDP and GNP the only thing that adds to Nepal GDP id the profit of the set up.

Thus not a total loss for the India market, which for the saying is not all that bad.

The pre-admission OMR form is of Rs 50. It’s the first step to getting your admission

There are 16 entries that you have to make in the form all with darkening the circles.

the entries have to be made in bloc letters than darken in the column below.

there are also entries where you have to write the entry and darken the no corresponding to your entire. For e.g. 1 or 2 in the entire of year passed.

Few points that you need to keep in mind

Use a blue pen for darkening

It takes a lot of time, so take your time

Do it with complete concentration or you’ll end up filling it more than once.

You have to write the enter in caps and then darken it

In the year of passing column you have to write the serial no of the year that you have passed and then darken it.

When putting the marks refer to the subject code given in the brochure not to the one in your board result.

The most critical is the course category encircle all the possible options not just the one you want to do because if you do that it helps if you do not get the course of your choice.

The most important point darken within the circle try not to exceed it because it creates a problem for the computer to read your OMR sheet if you do

This is the very first step of DU Admission procedure. This is the easy part then you have to wait for the cut off.

Which can get quite Desperate. this year the DU Cutoff are announced to come out on 25th JUN

Best of luck……………..

The information age has created many challenges for every profession from your daily life as to how you view the media and how the media in itself does its work.

The NEW MEDIA technologies have changed the landscape of journalism making it more accountable and transparent. from the Previously opaque and manipulative state apart from making journalism accountable.

New media technologies have benefited journalists tremendously from the growth in information communication technologies like the ICTs which have made available computers, Internet access, and mobile technology and much more. these technologies have easies the process of gathering news. How journalist follow their leads and investigations through different tools.

In today’s fast-paced society, more and more people are turning to their computers, cell phones, and Bluetooth devices for updates ranging from weather predictions to any local happenings. is technology has become the quickly and primary way of receiving information.

Journalists’ functions have shifted from information transmission to information processing. There role has shifted to gatekeepers” and information “monitors”. Now there role is not to provide the news but merely to point the way.

Web technology has provided opportunities for sources and audiences to participate in news production. Given the reader the autonomy to decides what, when and how to read.. The digital revolution in information and communication technologies has created the platform for a free flow of information, ideas and knowledge across the globe.

Now the audience has the means and the know the appropriate method to know and decide what to trust and know whom to listen to. They can check sources and verify facts to their own satisfaction.

The new media technologies have to an extent equipped the audience to fight the manipulation of the media and form opinion of their own free will. Which might not be entirely possible.

But it is now possible to some extent.

It is a brand of instant noodles manufactured by Nestlé. It is popular in Australia, India, South Africa, Brazil, New Zealand, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Fiji and the Philippines it’s also called “Maggie me” in some countries and is a part of the Mag family, a Nestlé brand of instant soups, stocks, and noodles.

This Is Not The First Time That this product Is In Criticism.

Before this it was criticized for making false claims that the noodles would “help to build strong muscles, bone and hair”. One of the key facts due to which it is in trouble are that, this product uses

MSG- a form of concentrated salt added to foods to enhance the flavor.MSG has many side effects like vomiting, migraine headaches, asthma, heart irregularities, depression and even seizures. The problem is that the product mentions no MSG on its package thus directly violating EU consumer protection legislation,

It, on a general basis contains in One serving (1 block or 100 grams) of noodles contains 1170 mg. of sodium aka salt, almost half of the USDA 2400 mg maximum. The noodles provide 10% of your daily calcium and 12% of your daily iron requirement. apart from that have no nutritional benefit.

Knowing all this you might now be able to relate to the circumstance all over the country . Let’s see the status now

June 3-Delhi government deemed ‘unsafe’ for consumption ban the sale of Maggie Noodles for 15 days.

June 4- The Indian Army 1,000 army canteens, 1500 Central Police Canteens and some Navy canteens remove Maggie stock.

Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir and Tamil Nadu proceed for a ban.

Authorities in Telangana banned the sale of the opular noodles

June 5-The Nepal government, The Assam government, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh ban Maggie noodles

June 6- Nestle CEO Paul Bulcke declared that Maggie noodles are unsafe for consumption.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said we have no concerns over the safety of Maggie

June 6– The Punjab government ban Maggie noodles and other nine varieties.

So for now Maggie is in a down fall.

It’s not all that bad gives you a chance to try other products as well.

Have you ever gone to the supermarket and bought more than you needed. We all just term it as a shopping streak and move on.

But, what if there is more to it than that. What if your are subconsciously being made susceptible to buy more products than required.

We’ll then what your experiencing is priming. Priming is deliberately influencing your subconscious mind through different symbols and precisely established clues to alter your perception of reality without you knowing it.

Consumer behavior is influenced through an arsenal of tactics like brand names, slogans, endorsers, pricing, and salespeople. These are the ones we know of there are an array of techniques we don’t know about like prime, associated mental constructs which allow consumers to associate to a certain product.

Priming is one of them. It is used on a daily basis all around us to influence are decision making. Priming is done through symbolic clues which hit your subconscious to build a perception.

Let’s take an e.g. Of any mall or shop where they guarantee on selling high quality fresh and environmentally sound fruits and vegetables. Which suggests that the veggies there are all fresh.

But are they really can we really assume that without a shadow of doubt.

Let’s see if that’s true.

When you first walk into any such store the first thing you’ll see are fresh luscious flowers. To the common eye them seem to be there for beauty but what they are really there for are to unconsciously suggest the customer of freshness.

Then when you go up to the ail you’ll see that the name plates where the price is written it written with chalk, like the farmer just came down this morning and wrote them. To the contrary there decided in a office somewhere and such tags are manufactured in the plant.

Then lets come to the part as to why there are so many ice packs everywhere you look . Do veggies really need to be kept that cold.

No they don’t. The ice is another symbolic to manipulate you.

Similarly the tactic of sprinkling water on or veggies to make them look fresh no matter how many days old they may be has been a very old technique to display freshness and purity.

Ironically the same dewy mist makes the vegetable rot even faster.

So much for perception versus reality.

So the next time you happen to grab your wallet to go shopping . Keep in mind these tactics and don’t be fooled by your retailer.

Brainwashing you to believe the perception rather than the reality.

We live in the digital age. The age where we are not just connected, we are digitalized. We have a digital personality, a history and a predicted future. Today we live in the cyber world as much as we do in the real world.

Its won’t be false to say that the line b/w the two is disappearing precariously. Digitalization has taken a swing at most of the world around us, but what it has affected the most is the field of journalism. New media technologies has revolutionized media to the phase of 24/7 news. With greater instantaneity and the greater degree of mistakes.

Before the journalistic process had a hierarchy, where everything was judged and reviewed , scrutinized to the littlest detail possible. Agendas and discussions where done face to face and there was a civil format for everything.

Today we have joined a faceless mass, a mass of twitter followers and re-tweets. Where any news can be sensationalized , compromising the boundaries of private and public.

But what really has altered the landscape of journalism is “citizen journalist” a group of journalist who chose to call themselves journalist on their free will , who have somehow entitled themselves responsible for distribution of information, which many of them do not have the means to verify or the authority to distribute.

It’s not hidden that citizen journalism is a boon to investigative journalism as an abundance of sources. There are many a e.g. Where citizen journalism have had a great role to play. Yet, there are also e.g. Where their activities have led to disasters.

One such e.g. Was the recent incident when a false report surfaced on CNN’S ireport that Steve jobs had a heart attack and apple’s stock took a temporary 10-point hit. The report has been removed, but only after silicon alley insider and others confirmed with apple that jobs did not have a heart attack and the stock jumped right back up to its opening levels.

These kind of reports on the behalf of the citizen journalist are common today.

Thus raise the question to what extent should this be tolerable and what does journalism stand for and should untrained people be allowed to call them journalists.

We give theorist less credit than they deserve media theorist have extensively worked on detailed theories to explain media orientation and today those theories to those who know them, have become mantras to success and the others like you and me, the unsuspecting public “genres” which we so whole heatedly love . Each genre has a character if we watch closely and that character relates to a certain kind of personality like the Salman Khan movies relate to the common man who is full of fun catch phrases and deals with issues up front.

While Sarukhan related to romance and decency back in the day.

To theories they are all media orientation. We use media to escape from reality or personify ourselves. It’s like a dirty desire, we aspire to be someone who we become in those 3 hour .

Similarly the movies which identify with more of the genres or say personalities like The twilight saga become a success. The movie is a perfect e.g. The movie has different genres in a single character which makes him/her identifiable to a larger audience for e.g.:

The love story identifies with the romance genre

Vampire to the supernatural

And the courage of Bella to an empowered women

The emphasis on family to the unity genre

And for those who identify with each it’s a heaven.

These unsuspecting facts are what leads to fandom and the blurring of lines between reality and fiction and create and impression on the minds of the people, are formula to hits and blockbusters.

But what it really ravels is how we use media as an escape for reality and to an extent a way of communication of one personified and in some cases true personality.

Many of us might not know, but we have a media orientation .What we call preferences, But really is our media orientation.

Media orientation means the available media possibilities that are in a particular place, given a person’s economic and educational circumstance. Leading to a regular pattern of behavior. But also a fairly constant disposition tendency or ‘set’.

These media orientation are a joint outcome of past media experiences and social background that take form of an affinity towards a certain kind of media or specific use or preference .

We have an habit of aiding ourselves due to which we chose the thing that are closer and easily accessible to us , no doubt that making things simpler is a common charter of humanism.

But we tend to develop a common pattern, similar to what I was saying in the start.

We have gotten so consumed into choosing things and content due to comfort that we end up making it a habit and then through myths naturalizing these unhealthy habits.

There is often a trend that we get the content we prefer and form a bubble around us, which is a common misconception we get the content they chose to give us. But what’s to think about is how we form these habits in the first place.

These habits are formed through prescience placement of such content making us susceptible to it. Kind of a like buying a shop on the street than in the alee.

The realty of such an habit is seen when we are made susceptible to a certain kind if content that tends to focus on a certain angle of news . Each broadcasting tries to mold a different angle and these angle are presented so that they are easily accepted by us thus molding our opinions .

So the next time you view the news view it perceptively and don’t be fooled by the media have you own perception and keen view to see through the vial.
