We think Django\u2019s admin interface is pretty spectacular. In fact, we\u2019d call it one of Django\u2019s \u201ckiller features.\u201d However, we often get asked about \u201cuse cases\u201d for the admin interface\u2014when do we<\/em> use it, and why? Over the years, we\u2019ve discovered a number of patterns for using the admin interface that we think might be helpful.<\/p>\n

Obviously, the admin interface is extremely useful for editing data (fancy that). If you have any sort of data entry tasks, the admin interface simply can\u2019t be beat. We suspect that the vast majority of readers of this book will have a whole host of data entry tasks.<\/p>\n

Django\u2019s admin interface especially shines when nontechnical users need to be able to enter data; that\u2019s the purpose behind the feature, after all. At the newspaper where Django was first developed, development of a typical online feature\u2014a special report on water quality in the municipal supply, say\u2014goes something like this:<\/p>\n
