These attributes are also called as the i18n attributes, due to the draft name on which it is defined.<\/p>\n<p><strong>dir Attribute<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It indicates direction of text flow i.e. left to right or right to left. It can be used on elements to change the direction of that portion of the document and to change directionality of a whole document then use this attribute in &lt;html&gt; element. Its usage is<\/p>\n<p>dir=&#8221;ltr|rtl&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It can have two values as<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"59\"><strong>Value<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"153\"><strong>Meaning<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"59\">ltr<\/td>\n<td width=\"153\">Left to right (default)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"59\">rtl<\/td>\n<td width=\"153\">Right to left<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>lang Attribute<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It tells the language used in a web page and used for compatibility with older versions of HTML, and now \u2018xml: lang\u2019 attribute is used. Hence, both \u2018lang\u2019 and \u2018xml:lang\u2019 attributes to be used for maximum compatibility.<\/p>\n<p>It has low effect in browsers but mainly used for search engines to tell the language of web page is made in. It can be applied to the content of a specific element if used on it but to apply on whole document it is used on &lt;html&gt; element.<\/p>\n<p>Its values are described by ISO-639 standard consisting of two-character language codes and with a dash and a sub-code name for any further dialect. English<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>It is used in webpage as<\/p>\n<p>&lt;html lang=en&gt;<\/p>\n<p>&lt;head&gt;<\/p>\n<p>&lt;title&gt;English Language Page&lt;\/title&gt;<\/p>\n<p>&lt;\/head&gt;<\/p>\n<p>&lt;body&gt;<\/p>\n<p>This page is using English Language<\/p>\n<p>&lt;\/body&gt;<\/p>\n<p>&lt;\/html&gt;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The xml:lang Attribute<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It replaces the \u2018lang\u2019 attribute and supports all languages that are written in XML so, it has \u2018xml:\u2019 characters prefixed. Its value is same as of \u2018lang\u2019 attribute i.e. an ISO-639 code.<\/p>\n<p>It is used as<\/p>\n<p>xml:lang=&#8221;en&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>XML-aware applications and search engines use it.
