Certified labour law analyst<\/span>&lt;<\/a><\/pre>\n<h2><strong>Definitions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Some of the important definitions under the Act are as follows:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Dependant:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Under section 2 of the Act, \u2018Dependant\u2019 is defined to mean any of the following \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A widow, a widowed mother, unmarried legitimate or adopted daughter, legitimate or adopted son.<\/li>\n<li>A widower, a parent other than the widowed mother.<\/li>\n<li>Minor legitimate or adopted son\/daughter, unmarried brother\/sister, widow sister.<\/li>\n<li>Grandparents (maternal\/paternal), parents, wife\/husband\u2019s parents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/definitions.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-61109 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/definitions.jpg\" alt=\"Definitions\" width=\"290\" height=\"176\"><\/a><strong>Employer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The owner or occupier of the business or the work premises, also any managing agent appointed by the employer, or any incorporated person.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Employee:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The term \u2018workman\u2019 is omitted and replaced by the definition of employee, under section 2 of the Act. Therefore the employee&#8217;s definition is as a person who is \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A railway servant, not permanently employed in any administrative district or sub-divisional office of the railway;<\/li>\n<li>Captain of an aircraft, or other members of the crew;<\/li>\n<li>A master, seaman or other members of the crew of a ship;<\/li>\n<li>Recruited by a company abroad for work;<\/li>\n<li>Also, a driver, helper or mechanic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Wages:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The total emolument including all the benefits or privileges (being capable of estimate in money) is, therefore, termed as \u2018Wages\u2019. Though, it doesn\u2019t count the travelling concession or travelling allowance paid by the employer.
