Essentially, the current status of the operation can be assessed, at a glance.<\/p>\n<p>On the factory floor, visual management can take shape in the form of key performance indicators that relate to production quantity, speed and quality, as well as machine uptime and downtime.<\/p>\n<p>Values such as the following\u00a0communicate a process\u2019 or an operator\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">Count, <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">Good Count <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">Bad Count, <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">Shift Totals,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">Reject\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">Ratio and Rate<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In keeping with visual management\u2019s requirement that the information can be seen at a glance, the information is shown on large displays that can be seen from a distance and by more personnel than just the machine operator.<\/p>\n<p>Many companies, whether or not they practice continuous improvement, want production to flow uninterrupted, and have therefore adopted some form of andon, a term that refers to a system used to notify management, maintenance and other personnel of a process or quality issue. The green, yellow and red light \u201cstacks\u201d or \u201ctowers\u201d seen in a production facility are and on messaging in action.
