Six Sigma is considered to be a goal where processes not only encounter less defects, but do so consistently (low variability). Six Sigma reduces variation to deliver products and\/or services reliably.<\/p>\n<p><a ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"http:\/\/vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/6sigma.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-42272 size-full aligncenter\" title=\"dmaic\" src=\"http:\/\/vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/6sigma.png\" alt=\"dmaic\" width=\"466\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/6sigma.png 466w, https:\/\/www.vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/6sigma-300x251.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 466px) 100vw, 466px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A sigma represents\u00a0691462.5 defects per million opportunities, which\u00a0translates to a percentage of non-defective outputs of only 30.854%. That would be considered poor performance. If one processes\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">functioning at a three sigma level, this means there are\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">66807.2 errors per million opportunities, or delivering 93.319% non-defective outputs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><strong>How Six Sigma Works<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>There are three basic elements to Six Sigma:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">1. <strong>Process improvement:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">The purpose of process improvement is to remove the root causes of result deficiencies in processes that already exist in the organisation. These performance deficiencies may be causing real problems for the organization, or may be preventing<br \/>it from working as efficiently and effectively as it could.<br \/>To reduce these defects a 5-step approach is used.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><strong>DMAIC<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">DEFINE \u2013 a major issue is identified and a project team is\u00a0formed and given the responsibility and resources for solving\u00a0the problem.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">MEASURE \u2013 data that describes accurately how the process is\u00a0working currently is gathered and analysed in order to produce\u00a0some preliminary ideas about what might be causing the problem.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">ANALYSE \u2013 based upon these preliminary ideas, theories are\u00a0generated as to what might be causing the problem and, by\u00a0testing these theories, root causes are identified.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">IMPROVE \u2013 root causes are removed by means of designing and\u00a0implementing changes to the offending process.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">CONTROL \u2013 new controls are designed and implemented to\u00a0prevent the original problem from returning and to hold the\u00a0gains made by the improvement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 26.666667938232422px;\"><a ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"http:\/\/vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/dmaic.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-42280 size-full aligncenter\" title=\"dmaic\" src=\"http:\/\/vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/dmaic.png\" alt=\"dmaic\" width=\"572\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/dmaic.png 572w, https:\/\/www.vskills.in\/certification\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/dmaic-300x109.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 572px) 100vw, 572px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">2. <strong>Process design:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Many a times simply improving existing processes is not enough,\u00a0and, hence, new processes will need to be designed, or\u00a0existing processes will need to be re-designed. There are\u00a0several reasons why this could be necessary:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf An organisation may choose to replace, rather than repair, one or more of its core processes.<br \/>\u25cf An organisation discovers, during an improvement project, that simply improving an existing process will never deliver<br \/>the level of quality its customers are demanding.<br \/>\u25cf An organisation identifies an opportunity to offer an entirely new product or service.<\/p>\n<p>As with process improvement, a five-step approach is used to\u00a0design\/re-design a process:<\/p>\n<p><strong>DMAIC<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">DEFINE \u2013 identify the goals for the new process, taking into\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">account the customer requirements.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">MATCH \u2013 develop a set of performance requirements for the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">new process that match these goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">ANALYSE \u2013 carry out an analysis of these performance\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">requirements for the new process, and based upon this produce\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">an outline design for the new process.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">DESIGN &amp; IMPLEMENT \u2013 work this outline design up into a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">detailed design for the new process, and then implement it.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">VERIFY \u2013 make sure the new process performs as required and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">introduce controls to ensure it keeps performing that way.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">3. <strong>Process management:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Because it requires a fundamental change in the way an\u00a0organisation is structured and managed, process management is\u00a0often the most challenging and time-consuming part of Six Sigma.<\/p>\n<p>In general, process management consists of:<br \/>\u25cf Defining processes, key customer requirements, and process\u00a0\u201cowners\u201d.<br \/>\u25cf Measuring performance against customer requirements and\u00a0key performance indicators.<br \/>\u25cf Analysing data to enhance measures and refine the process\u00a0management mechanisms.<br \/>\u25cf Controlling process performance by monitoring process\u00a0inputs, process operation, and process outputs, and\u00a0responding quickly to problems and process variations.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LcamODKt-sQ?rel=0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>)<\/p>\n<div class=\"apply\">\n<p>Test Your Six Sigma Black Belt Skills By Taking Our Practice Tests on This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vskills.in\/practice\/quiz\/Six-Sigma-Black-Belt\">Link.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Become Vskills Certified Six Sigma Black Belt Professional.
