Ports and Printers<\/strong><\/p>\n

To install a standard port<\/h2>\n

    \n
  1. In Control Panel, open the\u00a0Printers and Faxes<\/strong>\u00a0folder, right-click the printer that you want to configure, and click\u00a0Properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. On the\u00a0Ports<\/strong>\u00a0tab, click\u00a0Add Port<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. In the\u00a0Printer Ports<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box, select\u00a0Standard TCP\/IP port<\/strong>, and click\u00a0New Port<\/strong>\u00a0to launch the\u00a0Add Standard TCP\/IP Printer Port Wizard<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. Complete the\u00a0Add Standard TCP\/IP Printer Port Wizard by\u00a0<\/strong>using the information provided in Table\u00a03.3.Table\u00a03.3\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Using the Add Standard TCP\/IP Printer Port Wizard<\/strong>

    Printer Name or IP Address<\/td>\nTo identify the printer that will be connected to the port, type its name in the\u00a0Printer Name<\/strong>\u00a0or its IP address in the\u00a0IP Address<\/strong>\u00a0box.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Port Name<\/td>\nIn the\u00a0Port Name<\/strong>\u00a0box, type a port name, which can be any character string, or use the default name that the wizard supplies.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Additional Port Information Required<\/td>\nTo configure a standard port, click\u00a0Standard<\/strong>, and then select one of the listed devices. If you do not know the details of the port, try using the\u00a0Generic Network Card<\/strong>.To create a custom configuration, click\u00a0Custom<\/strong>, and then configure the port by using the\u00a0Configure Standard TCP\/IP Port Monitor<\/strong>\u00a0screen that appears.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

    If the wizard cannot determine the appropriate protocol for the port, it prompts you for the information. Follow the vendor\u2019s instructions for selecting either the RAW or LPR option.<\/p>\n

    If you are not prompted for more information, continue to step\u00a05.<\/li>\n

  5. Review the port information, and click\u00a0Finish<\/strong>.The new port is listed on the\u00a0Ports<\/strong>\u00a0tab of the\u00a0Properties<\/strong>\u00a0property sheet.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    How to\u00a0setup a Standard TCP\/IP Port\u00a0to\u00a0print\u00a0to Print Server?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

    1.\u00a0 Run the Print Server Configuration Utility to get the IP address of your Print Server.
    \nThe Print Server Configuration Utility is included in the Administrator Utility which can be downloaded from our\u00a0download page.<\/span><\/p>\n

    If your Print Server Configuration looks like the following, click on PrintServer Status tab.\u00a0 Take a note about the Active IP address.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \"1\"<\/p>\n

    If your Print Server Configuration Utility looks like this, get the IP address<\/p>\n

    \"2\"<\/p>\n

    It is optional to assign print server a fixed IP address in your network, but we suggest you do so.
    \nIn the above Print Server Configuration Utility, click on Setup button and go to TCP\/IP, then you can assign a fixed IP address to print server.\u00a0 In the above example, our print server has fixed IP address 192.168.123.13.\u00a0 Close Print Server Configuration.<\/span><\/p>\n

    If you have no idea about IP address, you may click\u00a0here\u00a0for some basic knowledge for networking.<\/span><\/p>\n

    2.\u00a0 Click on the Start button. Select Run.\u00a0 Type “command” hit OK.\u00a0 Under the Command Prompt, type “ipconfig” hit Enter.\u00a0 You will see the IP address of your computer. Write down the IP address of your computer.\u00a0 Please note the first three digits of the Print Server IP address should be the same as the first three digits of your computer IP address.\u00a0 In our example, both use 192.168.123.x IP addresses.<\/p>\n

    \"3\"<\/p>\n

    3.\u00a0 Under the command prompt, PING the IP address of your print server.\u00a0 In our example, ping 192.168.123.13 and receive 4 replies.\u00a0 Type Exit hit Enter to close the command prompt.<\/span><\/p>\n

    4.\u00a0 Click Start menu, go to Printers and Faxes. If you already have a printer driver icon existed, you can skip this step and go to step 5.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Click on Add Printer icon, click Next.\u00a0 Select the option “Local printer attached to this printer” and remove the check on “Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer”.\u00a0 Click Next.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \"4\"<\/p>\n

    Select the option “use the following port: LPT1”.\u00a0 Click Next.<\/p>\n

    \"5\"<\/p>\n

    Select your printer driver provided by your Windows OS.<\/p>\n

    \"6\"<\/p>\n

    If you do not see your printer in the list, you can click “Have Disk” button and provide the driver or install the printer driver by your printer manufacturer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Click Next.\u00a0 You don’t need to share the printer and don’t print a test page.\u00a0 Click Finish button while the driver is installed successfully.\u00a0 Once you see the print driver icon created in Printers&Faxes group, you can continue to Step 5.<\/span><\/p>\n

    5.\u00a0 Right click on your printer driver icon and select Properties.\u00a0 Go to Ports tab.\u00a0 Click on Add Port.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    6.\u00a0 Select Standard TCP\/IP Port.\u00a0 Click New Port.\u00a0 Click Next.<\/p>\n

    7.\u00a0 Input the IP address of your print server.\u00a0 Click Next.<\/p>\n

    9.\u00a0 Select Protocol: LPR.\u00a0 Input the Queue name: lpt1.\u00a0 Please note, the queue name must be lower case of LPT1 for single port print server.\u00a0 If you have multiple port print server and the printer is on the second port, the queue name will be lpt2.\u00a0 If the printer is on the third port, the queue name will be lpt3.<\/p>\n

    \"11.\"<\/p>\n

    10.\u00a0 Click OK.\u00a0 Click Next.\u00a0 Click Finish.\u00a0 Click Close.\u00a0 You will be back to the Ports tab.<\/p>\n

    Check the new created Standard TCP\/IP Port.\u00a0 If you have the option “Enable bidirectional support”, make sure it is not checked.\u00a0 Click on Apply.<\/span><\/p>\n

    11.\u00a0 Click on the General tab and print a test page.
    \n<\/span><\/p>\n

    Note, if you want to enable your Firewall, the LPR protocol uses TCP Port 515.\u00a0 You can follow the above procedure, then in the Exception of the firewall, add the TCP Port 515.\u00a0 That will make the printing go through your firewall.<\/span><\/p>\n
