Declaration of Interdependence
The declaration of interdependence is a set of six management principles intended for project managers of software development projects. While the Agile Manifesto is geared toward Agile practitioners, the Declaration of Interdependence is geared towards Agile project leaders.
Principles associated with the DOI
- Firstly, we increase return on investment by making the continuous flow of value our focus. In other words, the agile project provides exactly what the business asks for and nothing more.
- Secondly, we deliver reliable results by engaging customers in frequent interactions and shared ownership. Saying so, we not only engage the customer in good business but also helps develop and build relationships.
- After that, we expect uncertainty and manage for it through iterations, anticipation, and adaptation. To clarify, agile methods don’t rely on plans to guide projects. Software projects are famous for the constant changes.
- In addition, we unleash creativity and innovation by recognizing that individuals are the ultimate sources of value, and creating an environment where they can make a difference. The logic behind this principle is that each individual team member must receive the support s/he needs.
- Further, we boost performance through group accountability for results and shared responsibility for team effectiveness. In other words, self- managed teams are typically more enthusiastic when working together to resolve issues. When the entire team shares the responsibility for project success, everyone on the team is a success.
- Lastly, we improve effectiveness and reliability through situationally specific strategies, processes, and practices. In other words, the project conditions require pre-evaluation for the best solutions instead of attempting a one- size- fits- all approach.
